Electricity Market Prices – Week ending 04 January 2019

Key electricity market observations for the week ending 4 January 2019:

  • QLD weekly average spot price increased $22.10/MWh to $78.28/MWh and demand increased 411 MW to 6,353 MW. The increase in demand was primarily driven by the return of commercial and industrial load as businesses returned to work after the holiday period.
  • Susan River solar farm came online for the first time on 29 December 2018. Susan River has been developed by ESCO Pacific and once fully operational will have capacity of 85 MW.
  • Generation in NSW was stable with all baseload units continuing to operate without material interruption (planned or unplanned).
  • Delta Electricity (owners of Vales Point power station) recently announced that it had agreed to purchase Chain Valley mine out of receivership.
