Electricity Market Prices – Week ending 19 July 2019

Key electricity market observations for the week ending 19 July 2019:

  • CS Energy’s Kogan Creek unit, the largest unit in QLD came offline on the 13/07 for a 77 day planned overhaul and is set to return on 27/09.
  • Origin’s Eraring Unit 2 and Delta’s Vales Point Unit 6 units returned to service this week post plant failure trips and down-time.
  • EA’s Yallourn brought unit 3 back online after a tube leak occurred the week prior however late on Thursday night unit 2 tripped.
  • Origin Energy’s Mortlake gas Unit 2 offline as of the 08/07 due to fire damage, and of course
  • AGL’s Loy Yang A Unit 2 offline due to extensive maintenance with an expected RTS announced by AGL of December 2019.
  • Wind generation performed very well last week for both SA and VIC:
    • Average wind generation in VIC was 909 MW which is close to a record week for wind generation in the state,
    • SA averaged 740 MW with a maximum of 1,487 MW and a minimum of 81 MW.
