Electricity Market Prices – Week ending 14 June 2019

Key electricity market observations for the week ending 14 June 2019:

  • The weekly average spot price and demand in QLD were $75.77/MWh and 6,077 MW respectively. Both spot prices and demand were softer relative to the previous week. With demand being softer there was a notable decline in the volatility of spot price, particularly in the morning and evening peak.
  • NSW imported an average of 499 MW of energy from QLD through the NSW1-QLD1 interconnector over the course of last week.
  • SA enjoyed the lowest weekly average spot price in the NEM. Warmer temperatures particularly in Adelaide helped to soften demand.
  • The weekly average spot price and demand in VIC were $74.17/MWh and 5,021 MW respectively. Both spot prices and demand were softer relative to the previous week. VIC average demand was softer by 427 MW (7.8%).
