Electricity Market Prices – Week ending 26 April 2019

Key electricity market observations for the week ending 26 April 2019:

  • QLD weekly average spot price and demand were $57.62/ MWh and 5,955 MW respectively. Average spot price was $12.90/MWh below the average from the previous week. Evening electricity prices were marginally lower than the previous week.
  • NSW weekly average spot price and demand were $63.06/ MWh and 7,040 MW respectively. Spot prices were $24.17/ MWh softer than the week prior and demand was 220 MW softer. Softer demand was largely driven by the public holidays.
  • On Thursday there were intervention prices in SA which ran until midday on Friday. Intervention prices were in place as a result of a direction from AEMO for synchronous generation to come online in order to maintain system strength and reliability.
  • VIC weekly average spot price and demand were $75.91/ MWh and 4,308 MW respectively. The VIC weekly average spot price was $23.79/MWh below the previous week, and demand 208 MW below.
