Electricity Market Prices – Week ending 25 January 2019

Key electricity market observations for the week ending 25 January 2019:

  • There were extremely high prices in VIC and SA on Thursday and Friday last week driven by very high temperatures and shortages in generation.
  • We observed the Cumulative Price threshold come into activation in VIC and SA on Thursday morning
  • SA weekly average spot price and demand were $669.37/MWh and 1,745 MW respectively. Similar to VIC, prices were highest on Thursday and with the daily average being $3,359.82/MWh.
  • VIC weekly average spot price and demand were $695.68/MWh and 5,515 MW respectively.
