Electricity Market Prices – Week ending 09 November 2018

Key electricity market observations for the week ending 9 November 2018:

  • NSW and QLD had higher spot prices last week, however VIC and SA spot prices softened from the very high levels experienced the week before. Spot prices across the NEM remain high for this time of year, which is one of the key reasons that we observed bullish conditions in the futures market leading into last week.
  • AEMO’s most recent generation summary page has 5,802 MW of committed projects across QLD, NSW, VIC and SA.
  • QLD demand pushed up last week as average temperatures increased by 2.6 degrees to 24.4 degrees.
  • There was volatility in spot prices on Tuesday last week which was largely the result of tripping units at key baseload power stations.
  • Wemen solar farm in VIC came online for the first time last week, once fully operational the solar farm will have 97 MW capacity.
