Electricity Market Prices – Week ending 3 August 2018

Key electricity market observations for the week ending 3 August 2018:

  • The COAG Energy Council will meet this Friday to either approve, delay or reject the proposed National Energy Guarantee (NEG). Should the NEG be accepted by the COAG Energy Council, draft legislation will go to Parliament for voting.
  • Forward contract generally increased last week particularly Q120 for mainland NEM regions.
  • Average weekly demand declined in all mainland NEM regions as milder temperatures eventuated.
  • Water levels at Snowy Hydro storage dams declined again, reaching 21%. The rate of decline in water levels did however reduce.
  • LGC prices were flat and STC prices marginally declined.
