Electricity Market Prices – Week ending 06 July 2018

Key electricity market observations for the week ending 6 July 2018:

  • On Friday, stakeholder submissions in response to the National Energy Guarantee Draft Detailed Design – Commonwealth Elements, were due. This paper is related to Australia‚Äôs emissions reduction targets through:
    • – setting the emissions target under the Guarantee;
    • – the treatment of emissions-intensive trade exposed (EITE) activities; and
    • – the role of external offsets.
  • LGC spot prices reached their lowest price point since the beginning of 2018 at $75.00/certificate on Friday.
  • Warmer temperatures in the second half of last week softened demand in NSW, VIC and SA.
  • Spot prices were lower across the NEM largely as a result of the softer demand.
  • Q418 contract prices softened for NSW and QLD.
  • Q218 average quarterly spot price in QLD was $69.69/MWh. This is the fifth consecutive decline in quarterly average spot prices for QLD since Q117.
