Electricity Market Prices – Week ending 11 May 2018

Key electricity market observations for the week ending 11 May 2018:

 

  • QLD spot prices were low again averaging $58.25/MWh. Despite these¬†low prices forward contract prices generally increased
  • There were cooler temperatures in Sydney and Melbourne which pushed up demand
  • NSW forward contracts were relatively stable
  • VIC 2018 and 2019 contracts generally declined
  • SA spot prices increased despite demand remaining flat. This was partially the result of one price spike of $2,544.49/MWh
  • No material changes in SA forward prices and very limited trading on the ASX
